Tea and Poetry
For the proposals I call ‘Decolonial,’ I use materials found in nature. I live in Fuerteventura, the oldest of the Canary Islands and the closest to Africa. This is a desert island, devoid of forests and with sparse vegetation, yet there are palm trees, which are the trees that best adapt to this climate. From time to time, the council sends gardeners to clean them of the dry bark that accumulates around the palm trees. This bark is thrown away, as no one here uses it. However, I have begun to put it to good use by creating textile art pieces.
Conceptual text of the work:
"Intervened Nature, nature creates its beautiful works. I intervene them with textile techniques, allowing for a dialogue between fabrics. Harmony and tension are produced in each stitch that the needle and thread run through the palm bark, seeking a fusion that allows the creation of a new artistic language."
These projects have the unique feature of combining poetic verses on tea bags included in the painting.
